1. Clematis Street
Clematis Street is in the heart of downtown West Palm Beach. It’s a historic district with beautiful, old architecture and a variety of great things to do. Along the pedestrian-friendly street that starts on the Intracoastal Waterway at Flagler Drive, you’ll find historic landmarks, great shops, world-class restaurants and nightclubs with live music. Clematis Street is a favorite spot with both visitors and locals, where every Thursday night the street is filled with exciting entertainment.
2. Norton Museum of Art
Established in 1941, the Norton Museum of Art is Florida’s largest art museum with more than 500 permanent collections including works by Andy Warhol, Georgia O’Keeffe and Matisse. Originally built to display the art collection of Ralph Hubbard Norton, a local industrialist, the museum also houses an impressive collection of contemporary photography, pre-Columbian artifacts and traveling exhibitions. The museum offers free daily tours and special events on Thursday evenings.
3. Lion Country Safari
For a day of adventure, Lion Country Safari offers a 500-acre conservation and animal park with over 900 species of animals that roam freely through the park. As the country’s first drive-through safari, you can see animals in their natural habitat from the comfort and safety of your own car. If you drive slowly, curious animals will approach for an up close look. The park is home to lions, tigers, white rhinos, bison, zebra and chimpanzees. The animals are more active in cool weather, so visit on a rainy or cool day.
4. Peanut Island
This small, man-made island located south of the Blue Heron Bridge, is a popular family-friendly destination. There’s a swimming area with picnic grounds and walking trails that wind through the 80-acre park. On the west side of the island, you can enjoy boating, kayaking, snorkeling, scuba diving and fishing from the pier. On the south side, you can explore the Palm Beach Maritime Museum, the Coast Guard Center and President Kennedy’s bomb shelter. There are no restaurants on Peanut Island, so be sure to pack a lunch, snacks and cool drinks.
5. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts
The Kravis Center, located in downtown West Palm Beach, is one of the country’s most prestigious performing arts venues. It’s home to the Palm Beach Opera, Palm Beach Pops and the Miami City Ballet. With a large amphitheater, concert hall and two small theaters, the Center hosts a variety of name entertainment year-round.
