The end of summer is fast approaching and it’s time to start making Labor Day Weekend plans. There’s plenty to do in the West Palm Beach area if you want to avoid the large crowds and stay cool. From Aug. 29 through Sept. 1, consider the following options to hanging out on a sweaty beach.
The Miami Home Design and Remodeling Show
A long-standing holiday tradition in South Florida, homeowners can get a look at thousands of decorating and remodeling ideas and products. Experts will be on hand to answer questions and show the newest state-of-the-art ideas for the home.
Palm Beach Zoo
If you want to get away from people and get up close to a peacock, tortoise, sloth or Bengal tiger, head over to the Palm Beach Zoo. Visit, feed and learn about some of nature’s odd and magnificent creatures. Animal trainers showcase a wide variety of feathered friends in various shows and special events, including Aug. 30 when marine lecture series focuses on the “goliath grouper.”
The Single Gourmet
Single people don’t have to troll bars or the beach looking for Mr. or Mrs. Right. From 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 29, the Single Gourmet of South Florida will he holding a social event and dinner for the area’s single people with attendees from Broward and Miami-Dade coming to Palm Beach for the event.
Bonfire/Drum Circle
Celebrate love, consciousness and the creative spirit with a bonfire and drum circle on Aug. 31. About 150 people meet to share the wonders of life with four events that also includes dancing. It starts at 6pm (sunset) at Shepard Park.
Stroll through history
Get out of the sun and into a historical look back at the history of West Palm Beach. How many people actually know the history of the city? Here’s a great opportunity to learn about the roles of Ponce de Leon and the Mayaimi at the Richard and Pat Johnson Palm Beach County History Museum
A Musical Tribute
The sounds of yesteryear come alive at the Plaza Theater as it presents the songs of Eddie Cantor, Al Jolson and Fanny Brice. Live performances are held every Friday and Saturday, and Labor Day Weekend will be no different. South Florida’s “Queen of Soul,” Valerie Tyson will perform on Aug. 29. The next night, On The Roxx will perform some of the greatest hits of the 80s.
